On Monday, 06 July 2026, from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM, the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) organized its first-ever Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course titled “Basic Understanding of Dhaka Mahanogor Imarat Bidhimala 2025” at the IAB Multipurpose Hall. The course was organized to provide architects with a comprehensive understanding of the newly introduced Dhaka Mahanogor Imarat Bidhimala 2025, explain the key changes from the previous regulations, and ensure their proper application in professional practice. A total of 224 registered IAB members participated in the session.

The course featured Architect Nawazish Mahbub, Vice President (National Affairs), 26th Executive Council, IAB, and Superintending Architect, Department of Architecture, Ministry of Housing and Public Works; and Architect M. Wahid Asif, Secretary (Practice), 26th Executive Council, IAB, and Partner, 4Walls Inside Outside, as mentors.
Session 01: Introduction and Background
In the first session, Architect Nawazish Mahbub presented the background and objectives behind the formulation of the Dhaka Mahanogor Imarat Bidhimala 2025. He provided an initial overview of the major changes and additions introduced in the 2025 regulations compared to the 2008 regulations. Particular emphasis was placed on the practical necessity of the revised provisions and the rationale behind their implementation.
Session 02: Practical Application of the Regulations
In the second session, Architect M. Wahid Asif provided an in-depth discussion on the practical application of the regulations. He particularly addressed their coordination with BNBC 2020, various chapters and appendices, ECPS, and other newly introduced provisions.

He explained key aspects such as FAR, setback, floor area calculation, and ground coverage through practical examples. The session also focused on the proper application of the regulations during the design approval process, methods of FAR calculation, and the effective implementation of the new regulations in real-world projects.
Question and Answer Session
The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer segment, where participating architects raised various questions regarding the provisions, amendments, and practical application of the new regulations. Both mentors patiently addressed the queries and clarified several complex aspects of the Dhaka Mahanogor Imarat Bidhimala 2025, providing participants with practical and context-based insights.

Overall Outcome
Overall, the CPD course played a timely and effective role in providing architects with a clear understanding of the structure and practical application of the revised building regulations, as well as the key differences between the 2008 and 2025 regulations. The session served as a valuable platform for strengthening professional understanding and facilitating the appropriate application of the newly introduced regulations in architectural practice.
