A Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session titled “Building Acoustics: Theories, Codes and Practice” was held on 27 January 2026 (Tuesday), from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Berger Seminar Hall of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB). Among the 99 registered architects, 87 members participated in the session.

The keynote speaker, Ar. Prof. Dr. S. M. Nazmul Imam, Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), delivered an insightful presentation on the fundamental principles of building acoustics. His discussion covered sound behavior, sources and transmission of sound, and strategies for effective sound control in buildings.

The session highlighted the theoretical foundations of sound absorption, reflection, and insulation, along with relevant provisions from national and international building codes, including the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC). Practical applications of acoustic design in classrooms, auditoriums, hospitals, office buildings, and residential spaces were also addressed.

The session was moderated by Ar. M. Wahid Asif, Secretary (Practice), and Ar. Saeeda Akter Mumu, Secretary (Seminar and Convention) of the 26th Executive Council of IAB.
