IAB is pleased to announce the launch of the Open Architectural Design Competition on Climate-Resilient Rural Housing within Bangladesh, jointly organized by the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB).
Access to adequate housing is a fundamental human right recognized by both the United Nations and the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. In rural Bangladesh, frequent cyclones, storm surges, monsoon flooding, riverbank erosion, and slow-onset environmental changes create a persistent cycle of damage and substandard repairs. This initiative invites the architectural community to envision implementable, affordable, and climate-resilient rural housing models across four designated ecological zones: Coastal Zone, Haor / Wetland, Char / Floodplains, and Hilly Areas / Barind Tract.
This competition presents a rare and meaningful opportunity for architects to bring forward their creativity, contextual sensitivity, and technical mastery toward building sustainable, disaster-resilient rural communities.
Competition Highlights & Key Details:
- Competition Type: Single-stage, open architectural design competition open to architects in Bangladesh.
- Eligibility: The Architect (Team Leader) must be a Regular Member of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) in good standing (up-to-date membership dues) and meet the conditions outlined in the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) 2020.
- Prizes: There shall be 10 (Ten) Prizes of BDT 100,000/= (Taka One Lac) along with a certificate for each winning entry.
Registration Details:
Eligible participants/teams may register by paying a registration fee of BDT 1,000 in cash against the participant’s/Team Leader’s IAB Membership Number at the IAB Office:

(Upon receiving the payment, IAB will issue a unique registration code against the participant’s IAB Membership Number. The Competition Brief and guidelines will be available on the IAB website and sent to registered participants via email.)
- Registration Form Submission: The completed and signed Registration Form must be emailed in PDF format to iabpksf@gmail.com by 03 November 2026 by 8:00 PM with R-[Registration no.] as the subject line.
