The Bengali New Year celebration held at the IAB Center premises in Agargaon, Dhaka, featured a variety of performances, including songs, poetry, puppet shows, dances by indigenous artists, and magic shows.
The first segment of the event began at 11:00 AM. The formal inauguration of the program was declared by the President of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), Architect Professor Dr. Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed. Present at the time were Vice President (National Affairs) Architect Nawazish Mahbub, General Secretary Architect Professor Dr. Masud Ur Rashid, Joint Secretary Architect Professor Dr. Nowroz Fatemi, Secretary (Practice) Architect Wahid Asif, Secretary (Heritage & Culture) Architect Kazi Shamima Sharmeen, Secretary (Seminar) Architect Saeeda Akhtar, Secretary (Membership) Architect Ahsanul Haque Rubel, Secretary (Publicity & Publication) Architect Shafiul Azim Shamim, among others.
Following the inauguration, a Boishakhi fair commenced in the Institute’s multipurpose hall. A group of drummers (dhakis) paraded around the fairgrounds while playing traditional drums. At 12:00 PM, a children’s painting festival began. Alongside the drawing activities, a pottery workshop was also conducted.
Participants, including architects and their family members, also enjoyed fortune-telling through a parrot and a bioscope show.
After a traditional Bengali lunch at 2:00 PM, the cultural segment began at 3:00 PM. Chief Architect of the Department of Architecture, Asifur Rahman Bhuiyan, along with members of the BUETian Gaan Adda, performed musical pieces. The indigenous performance group “Colors of Hills” presented dances, while “Kakatarua Puppet Theatre” staged a puppet show. A magic show was performed by Bairagi Sujan. Recitations were delivered by Architect Rafi Uddin Mahmud and Architect Nayna Tabassum. Architect Syed Tausif Monawar and Architect Samia Sharmin Biva hosted the program.
The New Year celebration concluded with evening refreshments.
